Ad

Turn plain wood lettering into this whimsical monogram for your kid’s room.
Materials Needed:

  • Kid’s Monogram Kit, Clarendon Cn BT and Expo font
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Craft paint: I chose teal, lime green and white paint
  • Glitter paint with iridescent glitter
  • Ribbon for hanging, I chose lime green to accent the dragonfly
  • Foam paint brush and medium tipped paint brush
  • Water for rinsing between colors and a paper towel to blot off any excess water

Start: Gather Your Materials

This project can get a little messy so you may want to put down some newspaper to protect your table from the paint and hot glue.

Step 1: Painting the 12″ Letter

Using the teal paint coat the front and sides of your letter. This may take two coats depending on the type of paint used.
Step 2: Paint the 2″ Tall Letters

Step 5: Paint the Body of the Dragonfly

Using the lime green paint and a clean medium brush, paint the front sides and backside of the dragonfly body.

Step 6: Affixing the Wings

Once your dragonfly parts paint has dried the wings should slip tightly onto the tab of the dragonfly body. Once you have the wings in the position you would like, turn the dragonfly over and apply a small bit of hot glue to the end of each wing to secure them in place.

Step 7: Attaching the Small Letters

Now that your 12″ letter and 2″ letters are dry it is time to glue them in place. Get your 2″ letters positioned where you would like them and then, using the hot glue, glue them down one by one.

Step 8: Adding Sparkles to the Letters

Using your sparkle paint apply a thin layer to the face of each letter. Be careful not too apply to much as the paint may then dry with a yellowish tint.

Step 9: Glitter the Wings

Repeat the glitter process from Step 8 to the with wings of the dragonfly. You may also want to add some glitter to the backside of the wings depending in the angle.

Step 10: Ribbon for Hanging

Once your glitter paint is dry gently turn the letter over. Use the hot glue to attach a 15″ piece of ribbon to the top right and left side of the letter. Turn the letter back over and tie the two pieces of ribbon together to make a bow. Trim off any excess ribbon. If you do not want to add ribbon for hanging you can glue a picture hook to the back of the letter instead.

Step 11: Attach the Dragonfly

Using the hot glue again, glue your dragonfly in place.

Done!

Your crafty kid’s room monogram is now complete. Hang and enjoy!
